Sell a Piece You Love To People Who'll Love It Too
We get asked every week — do you buy furniture? The answer is no. But we do something better.
We list your piece to a warm, engaged audience of vintage furniture lovers who trust our curation and buy regularly. You keep most of the sale price. We handle everything else.
This isn't TradeMe. It's not Facebook Marketplace. It's a curated platform where the right pieces find the right people.
"We're selective because our buyers are. Every piece listed on Plots & Pickles has been assessed, approved and presented to an audience that genuinely appreciates quality vintage furniture."
How It Works
Submit your photos via the contacts below. We assess within 48 hours.
If approved — bring it to our studio in Whangaparaoa or arrange collection at $59 when we're already in your area.
We photograph it to our standard, list it, and include it in the Thursday 7pm drop.
When it sells — you receive your payment automatically within 7 days.
If it doesn't sell in 4 weeks — we contact you and agree on next steps.
There will be no exceptions on this process. Auckland residents only.

What We Accept...And What We Don't!

Why 35%?
We build the audience, photograph your piece, write the listing, include it in our Thursday drop email to 1,400+ subscribers, run the ads, handle buyer enquiries and process the payment.
On a $300 piece you net $216.
On TradeMe the same piece competes with thousands of others. Here it lands in front of people who are specifically looking for what you have. -
✅ WE LOVE THIS
✔ Solid timber — rimu, kauri, oak, teak, walnut, macrocarpa.
✔ Vintage and mid-century pieces with genuine character.
✔ Art Deco and Arts & Crafts pieces in good condition.
✔ Custom or handmade pieces with quality joinery.
✔ Honest patina — aged naturally, not damaged.
✔ Pieces with a story — provenance, maker, era.
✔ Solid construction — good bones even if cosmetically tired.
✔ Timber that photographs well and has real character.
✔ Pieces that have been restored and improved.
✔ Anything you'd be proud to have in your own home.
-
✖ NOT FOR US
✖ Flat-pack or mass-produced furniture (IKEA, Kmart, The Warehouse).
✖ Veneer over chipboard or MDF.
✖ Pieces with mould, smoke or pet odour.
✖ Heavily painted pieces covering poor quality timber.
✖ Generic home furniture with no point of difference.
✖ Anything priced under $150.
✖ Items in poor structural condition without restoration.
✖ Modern reproductions styled to look vintage.
✖ Pieces you're trying to get rid of quickly because they're taking up space.
✖ Anything we can't verify the condition of from photos.

The Four Responses
Every submission gets one of these four responses within 48 hours:
✅ YES — great piece, let's get it listed. Here's what we think it should sell for.
⚠️ NOT YET — the piece has potential but needs work first. Here's exactly what it needs. We can do it for you [repair quote provided] or you can fix it and resubmit.
❌ NOT FOR US — this piece isn't right for our audience.
🌟 LEAVE IT — what you have is already valuable as-is. Don't restore it. Here's why. -
Photography Guide
We photograph all consignment pieces ourselves. But to assess your piece we need four clear shots:
✔ Full piece from the front — natural light, clean background.
✔ Full piece from the side or three-quarter angle.
✔ Top surface close-up — shows timber grain and condition.
✔ Any damage or wear — be honest, buyers trust honesty.
Photo tip:
Outside in the shade against a fence or plain wall is the best location in most homes. Avoid dark rooms, cluttered backgrounds and phone flash. -
Frequently Asked Questions
How is this different from TradeMe?
Your piece isn't competing with thousands of listings. It's presented to a specific warm audience of vintage furniture buyers who trust our curation and buy regularly. Our Thursday drops sell out. That's the difference.
Can I set my own price?
Yes - and we'll give you a recommendation. If your price is off the market we'll tell you. Our buyers are knowledgeable - an overpriced piece simply won't sell.
What happens after 4 weeks if it hasn't sold?
We contact you and agree on next steps - collect it, reduce the price and relist, or discuss other options. We never hold pieces indefinitely.
Do I need to deliver it to you?
You can drop it to our studio in Whangaparaoa by appointment, or we can collect it at $59 when we're already delivering or sourcing stock in your area.
What if my piece needs some work first?
We'll tell you exactly what it needs and quote for the repair if you'd like us to do it. Repair costs are to be paid before listing.
How do I get paid?
Automatic bank transfer within 7 days of sale. You'll receive a breakdown showing sale price, commission and any fees deducted.
Can I withdraw my piece before it sells?
Yes. Contact us and we'll arrange collection. A re-delivery of $59 will be charged if you can't collect.
