Sunshine, a rare teak table & the Art Deco piece, finished

Welcome to Saturday. Another full week (they all are), but the sun's out and summer might finally be on its way. The workshop's about to get warm, but I'll take that over cold any day. This is a rare one for me: I've never had a 1960s mid-century table before. Beautiful teak, with some wear on it, so I stripped the top, oiled it, and put some polish over that. You can see the before and after in the video. The colour that comes back is something else. The lesson here: don't get frightened off by watermarks and wear. It won't be perfect, but it's a whole lot better than ending up at the dump. And the Art Deco piece that seems to be world famous now is done. I stripped it right back and it came up even better than I expected. The grain is unreal. The original handle stays, and I took the door off and made a new shelf in its place. I think it works. That's exactly why I keep offcuts of plank and sheet lying around. You never know when one will bring a project back to life. Small pieces are easy to keep on hand; big sheets are harder, and for those I usually end up pulling another piece apart. The full restoration video has the whole breakdown, step by step. Still lined up on the bench: a lovely little piece that's going to become a stool. It's a special project I'll tell you about soon, just not today. There's also a unit we bought purely for its handles, and the sides are full of rimu and oak, so I'm working on a design to give that timber a second life. I'll share it when it's done. The workshop's stayed pretty tidy, everything out front has sold, and a few projects just need small details finished off. A quieter week, all told, and I'm still getting used to new glasses. My wonderful daughter was in today helping get the workshop and shop sorted, which made a huge difference. Next week there'll be a lot more going on. If you're working on something and need a tip or a hand, send it through the request-a-topic form on the feed and I'll do my best to help. See you next time.
